05 MARINE MIGRATION

DATA VISUALIZATIONFALL 2024
With the increasing impact of climate change, warming ocean waters are driving marine animals to migrate northward in search of cooler habitats.

For a magazine insert design project, I selected the Environmental Protection Agency's dataset on marine species distribution. My design highlights the broader shifts along the U.S. coastlines while providing a detailed focus on the migration patterns of the American Lobster. To convey this information effectively, I created a series of foldout graphs that not only educates readers about the broader implications of climate change on marine life but also encourages action by making the data accessible and impactful.

The cover and back cover harken to the theme of migration, where the lobster is seen swimming further away. There are colorful tab cutouts that are indicators as to what order to flip the pages.
The first graph contains a color-coded key depicting how far the American lobster has migrated throughout the years. The pages open up to display a foldout map portraying the changes in latitude.
