‘DON’T SAY GAY’ BOOK

EDITORIALSPRING 2024
In March 2022, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed the Parental Rights in Education bill, known by critics as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill. This legislation restricts discussions of sexual orientation and gender identity in Florida’s primary schools, sparking national debates on censorship and identity.

For a book design project, I interpreted Alex Woodward’s article, What is Florida’s ‘Don’t Say Gay’ Bill?, from The Independent. Through themes of censorship and concealment, I used translucent vellum paper and hide/reveal techniques, manipulating the physical page to create an interactive design that mirrors the article’s exploration of visibility and suppression.
